WASBO SPEAKS

We were delighted to have made not only the Front Page of the Lincolnshire Echo - but also Page Two as well! You can read their article here.

We hope those of you who were able to attend our meetings found them informative and thank you for taking the time to come along.   Through this Newsletter we hope to reach a wider audience and share with you what we now know of the Ministry of Defence’s view of the proposed Southern Bypass.

In September 2005, a meeting was held between Mr John Whyld of Lincolnshire Highways and representatives of RAF Waddington and the Defence Estates (DE) in order that the Lincolnshire County Council could present their proposals for the Southern Bypass.

In early October, the Defence Estates (DE) informed Mr Whyld that because of the time it would take the MoD to explore the implications of the bypass route, they would be unlikely to be in a position to meet the Lincolnshire County Council’s deadline of early November for submissions and comments.   In the event, RAF Waddington did not submit their concerns until January 2006.

In summary, the RAF have expressed grave concerns on both security and safety grounds, both to aircraft and vehicles travelling on the bypass, should the Route 2 option be chosen.  Route 2C causes most serious concern as it passes close to the aircraft hangars and offers the opportunity for hostile attack.   Route 3 was not without problems but DE offered proposals that would mitigate their concerns.

At the time of writing, neither the Bypass Project Manager nor his representatives have publicly acknowledged the expressed concerns of RAF Waddington.   We look forward to hearing their comments.

Then judge for yourself!
